Church Mouse Update 24th July 2022
The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A slightly less busy week around The Presbytery as various programmes come to an end and schools begin to look towards their summer holiday period . . . .
It was wonderful to present our newly confirmed with their certificates at our 11.00 Mass last Sunday, Fr D reminded them of what Bishop Richard had said the weekend before at their confirmation ceremony “this is not the end but really is the beginning of the rest of your life of faith in the Church.” After the Mass Fr D celebrated the baptism of a child that had celebrated the ‘Rite of Welcome’ at Mass a few weekends before - this was the last baptism ceremony before the programme starts up again in the Autumn (Baptism celebration
21st November).
On Monday Fr D was attending the marriage of a parishioner at the Italian Church in Clerkenwell (he had completed all the church paperwork for the couple) - the hottest day of the year, so far! It was a wonderful celebration of the Sacrament of Marriage with several priests taking part as well as an archbishop!
Tuesday after Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition, Fr D had some time to catch up on some Parish paperwork and chase up a few things with various phone calls and emails. In the evening he was attending the Silver Jubilee celebrations of a brother priest (again another really hot celebration, but as a reward there was a thunderstorm as soon as everyone came out from the Mass!).
Fr D continued dealing with the pile of paperwork that has built up on his desk over the past few weeks whilst he was concentrating on First Eucharist and Confirmation after Morning Prayer and Mass. He did not go down Bishop’s House because they were all getting ready/ packing for the ‘big move’ to Crawley in a couple of weeks time. On Wednesday afternoon he had some very enjoyable ‘down time’ with some parishioners.
On Thursday after Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D was meeting with a witness for one of his marriage cases; unusually, because the witness lives in Cobham, Fr D interviewed them here in the Parish.
On Friday morning when he came back in from the church Fr D finished off this weekend’s newsletter . . .
