Church Mouse Update 6th October 2024
The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A great time was had by all who attended our annual Parish Harvest Celebration last Friday. Forty-Eight parishioners were in attendance of all ages to join in a Thanksgiving Mass for this year’s harvest before moving to the Parish Centre to enjoy a Jacket Potato Supper. Participants were able to choose from four delicious fillings for their potato: vegetarian chilli, grated mature cheddar, baked beans, and tuna and sweetcorn. To create the rest of the meal there were a variety of salads, dressings, carrot sticks, hummus, and French bread. Following on from the meal were : fruit pie, jellies, cakes, custard, and cream. A Raffle held at the event raised £165 and the whole event raised a wonderful £305 which will be added to our Retiring collection for CAFOD’s Harvest Fast Day at the weekend.
Fr D spent most of Monday making preparations for the Parish for whilst he is away. Fr Tony Churchill will be celebrating our weekend Masses (no Reconciliation before Saturday evening Mass) and during the week there will be no Morning Prayer, Mass, or Exposition. Each week’s newsletter will give the timings each day for Mass being celebrated in a local parish. It is planned that the narthex area of the church will be open each day (except Monday), giving access to the quiet room for those who wish to pray before the Blessed Sacrament, or just to pop in for a short visit.
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday Fr D was down at the Tribunal Office dealing with various aspects of his marriage ministry there. Before he left for Crawley Fr D took note of the electricity meter readings to make sure that he had a correct record before the prices increased. When he got home from Crawley in the late afternoon he started his list of packing to go away and got out the box on wheels that he seems to put all of his clothes into on these occasions.
Wednesday, after Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D was able to led those parishioners who remained in one decade of the Rosary, marking October as the month of the Rosary. For most of the rest of the day Fr D was continuing the preparations for the Parish whilst he is away - newsletters, intercessions, notices, Retiring Collections, etc.
After celebrating Morning Prayer, Mass, and the Rosary on Thursday Fr D continued holiday preparations and was waiting in for an engineer coming to fit a new smart meter to the church (we already had one but they didn’t seem to be able to talk to it!) . . . .
