Church Mouse Update 8th December 2024
The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
As expected, a very busy week around The Presbytery as things entered the final week of preparations for our Parish Christmas Bazaar . . . . .
On Saturday Fr D was delighted to be able to celebrate First Reconciliation for those families on this year’s course of preparation. Both families and children have worked hard since September to prepare for this important day in the life of the young people - meeting Jesus for the first time in his great gift of forgiveness. These families are now looking forward to preparing for First Eucharist early in the New Year, ready to celebrate First Eucharist on 15th June.
At our Masses over the weekend we celebrated the beginning of the Church’s new liturgical year with the First Sunday of Advent, lighting the first candle on our splendid Advent Wreath! On Sunday afternoon we celebrated our first Advent Evening Prayer & Benediction, using the opportunity to spend some quality time with the Lord in prayer before the coming feast.
Following Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday Fr D was pleased to great the diocesan IT Manager and a workman with him as they came to run a fibre optic cable between The Presbytery and the Parish Office. This cable will ‘join up’ the two telephone systems so that Fr D and Sarah can communicate without having to ring one another. The cable is deliberately future proofed (ready for the coming of fibre optic telephones presently being turned out by Openreach). Now that this has been done we should be able to reduce the number of business phone line accounts to one, and will look at leaving BT to adopt another less costly company to service the line in the New Year. This will be the conclusion of a long-running project to bring the Parish IT equipment up to present standards.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday Fr D made a good start on the Newsletter for this week, knowing that time on Friday would be at a premium due to setting up the Christmas Bazaar.
Thursday, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D finished his parts of the Newsletter and passed it on to Sarah in the office to complete and print off/post online. He then had to go across to Leatherhead Hospital for his annual Retinopathy Eye Screening appointment . . . .
