Church Mouse Update 19th February 2023
The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Another very full week at The Presbytery . . . .
On Sunday at the 11.00 Mass Fr D presented our First Eucharist candidates with their own copy of this year’s Gospel (Year A Matthew). At their catechetical session this time around they have been looking at what we call the ‘Liturgy of the Word’ - the First and Second Readings, the Psalm, the Gospel, and the Homily. During their session Fr D explained to the children that God was very clever when he made us; giving us two ears and only one mouth, which suggests that perhaps we should listen twice as much as we speak!
Monday Fr D went off to Ewell for his monthly Ministry to Priests Support Group.
On Tuesday after Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition, Fr D picked up Canon Tony Churchill and went off to Caterham for the monthly Deanery Clergy Meeting. This time he was careful what he was eating at the lunch as he was attending an Esher Catenian ‘Clergy Night’ in the evening.
On Wednesday, having celebrated Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D rushed off to Crawley in his car to see what was waiting for him in his ‘in tray’ once more. As it happened there were just a few decrees for him to sign (moving various cases on to the next stage in the process) and he was able to begin work on a third case coming up for judgement.
Thursday, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D was back down in Crawley and getting on with one of his cases approaching judgement. He also ‘chased up’ what was happening about installing some electric car chargers in the car park. This had been suggested over a year ago now by the diocese (who picked out Cobham in particular), but he had heard nothing else. There is a meeting down in Crawley in a few weeks time which is intended to progress this project. Whilst he was at the office Fr D spoke again to the IT manager for the diocese about attempting to address a sound issue on our LiveStream system (Fr’s mic, the lectern mic, and the altar mic reproduce well but there appears to be an issue when the musicians come in). This has been an issue elsewhere in the diocese and a technician will be contacting Fr D, hopefully with a solution. When he got home in the evening he met with this year’s Confirmation candidates and was talking to them about Holy Week and how this was the highpoint of the Church’s year and some of the different things that happen from normal Sunday Mass. After having been with the candidates Fr D had his supper and continued with getting the newsletter ready for this weekend . . . .
